Is there an event, like the Olympics, in which Music is the main event, instead of Sports?
I have realized that my hopes to join the Olympics to win a medal for my country, is just a dream.. 
However, I must say… I am pretttttyyyyyyy good at playing the guitar, and I understand Scale and Chord Theories, to make my own improvisations, solos, etc.
Is there an event, like the Olympics, for Music?
There are worldwide competitions for musical performance, composition, songwriting and recording. Some are well known (ike the Grammys, American Idol, Country Music Awards, John Lennon Songwriting Competition, etc. These are largely commercial ventures that include in their metrics and measurements the amount of money that has been made or will be made; they are popularity contests.
Instrumental and vocal concert music competitions, what most people call “Classical” music, are held in countries around the world as well. Many of these events honor a great artist from the past like the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, and some reference living artists like the Van Cliburn Piano Competition. (Van Cliburn won the Tchaikovsky Competition as a young man.) There are also competitions for jazz, bluegrass, folk, samba, gamelon choirs and, perhaps, every conceivable musical genre and idiom.
Some masterpieces of Western art music take well over an hour to perform, and operas can last up to 4 hours or more. Imagine trying to watch a competition of orchestras from 50 countries competing for the gold medal in Beethoven, Mahler or Ravel? I suppose early “heats” could be decided by recording, saving only the “finals” for live performance, but that creates its own set of problems: recordings can be “enhanced;” mistakes can be edited out.
I believe it is virtually impossible to present an “Olympics” of music because: 1) musical tastes differ so widely, 2) determining the merit of musical perfomance or composition is largely subjective, and 3) any attempt to organize and stage such an event would quickly become so commercialized that the hype surrounding the event would eclipse the artistic merit of the competitors.
Ultimately music, like all art, is such an intensely personal experience that we each have our “champions” who move us in ways that athletics never can.
